SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State rowing team has signed five rowers to National Letters of Intent, head coach Jennifer Zebroski has announced.
Alyson Boyd comes to SDSU from Long Beach, Calif., where she rowed for the Long Beach Rowing Association the last three years. Boyd has competed and won several medals at the novice and varsity levels. Most recently, she placed first in the JV4+ at the Long Beach Invitational. Boyd has a well-rounded athletic background including several years of participation in basketball, soccer and tennis. She has also coached boys' basketball for the local parks and recreation department. Boyd's natural athleticism and rowing experience will make her a great addition to the team next year. Boyd is a senior at Artesia HS and plans on studying sports medicine at SDSU.
Kelsey Conover comes to The Mesa from Corona Del Mar, Calif., where she has participated in several summer rowing camps at the Newport Aquatic Center. At 6-foot-0, Conover has the perfect build for a collegiate rower and will row as a part of the novice team next fall. Conover is a senior at Orange County High School of Arts and is interested in studying advertising when she arrives on campus this fall.
Kalynn Craig joins the Aztecs from San Jose, Calif., where she is a senior at Valley Christian HS. A long time soccer player with over ten years experience, Craig decided to pick up an oar for the first time this fall and began rowing for the Los Gatos Rowing Club. Her accolades as a soccer player are numerous, including Defensive Player of the Year and team captain honors for several of her club teams. Craig has also demonstrated prowess in the classroom earning English and Religious History Student of the Year honors in 2004-05. Craig is planning on studying nutrition and kinesiology when she arrives at SDSU.
A fellow signee out of Valley Christian HS, Laura Forrest will also join the Aztecs in the fall. Forrest, a native of San Martin, Calif., is an all-around athlete but competes primarily in softball. Her accolades as a softball player include the Golden Bat Award, receiving the game ball in the World Series Finals and garnering player of the game honors at the Super World Series in Illinois. Forrest is also an avid swimmer and has water-skied and wake boarded for more than ten years. Though having never rowed before, Forrest's height and athletic background will make her a great addition to the Aztec novice team this fall.
Hannah Stiles comes to San Diego State from Manhattan Beach, Calif., where she is a senior at Mira Costa HS. Stiles has been an active ocean swimmer, surfer, junior lifeguard and paddle boarder for most of her life. Her accomplishments include several top finishes in open ocean swimming competitions, and a first place finish in the 2006 paddleboard state championships. A self-proclaimed "water woman," Stiles will easily transition into rowing when she begins rowing with the Aztec novice squad next fall. Stiles is planning on studying business and Spanish at SDSU.
Rounding out the list of signees is Jenna Wood, a senior from Shingle Springs, Calif. Wood is in her third year of rowing for Capital Crew and joins teammate and early signee Kassi Russell. Wood has a great rowing build, very solid power and a natural stroke and will have an immediate impact this fall. Wood attends Saint Francis HS and plans on entering SDSU's renowned business program.
