SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's tennis senior Markus Dickhardt has been named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII men's at-large second team as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A native of Marburg, Germany, Dickhardt earned a 3.59 grade-point average (GPA) while studying International Business at SDSU. Last season, he was named to the Mountain West Conference academic all-league squad for the third time in as many years.
Dickhardt, the MWC player of the year, is in the midst of a stellar season. Earlier this month, he qualified for the NCAA singles and doubles tournament currently underway in Athens, Ga., and owns a No. 43 national singles ranking and a record of 26-8. In doubles, he and Christian Groh are the 32nd-ranked team in America and sport a 13-7 record.
To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, must be a significant contributor to the team, and be in at least their second season at their current school. District VIII is comprised of all NCAA Division I schools from California, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Utah.
