SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Kristin Olafsdottir moved up two spots to finish in second place in the heptathlon at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at SDSU Sports Deck on Thursday afternoon. The sophomore used a strong 800-meter run effort to conclude the seven-event competition to place second with a total of 5,220 points. Overall, the Aztecs are in third place with eight points.

Sitting in fourth place to begin the day, Olafsdottir posted a seasonal best in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 2.25 inches, but still found herself in the same position with two events to go. Next in the javelin, the sophomore established a new heptathlon personal record with a distance of 114-2 moving her ahead of New Mexico's Sandy Fortner and into third place with only one event remaining.

In the 800, Olafsdottir led for most of the first lap and wound up finishing in second with a season-best time of 2:25.14, just behind Meaghan Peoples of TCU (2:13.78). At the end of the hepatathlon, the top three had all switched places with Olafsdottir moving into second, Colorado State's Emily Pearson (5,183) falling from the top spot into third and Utah's Amanda Feight (5,328) winning the title after beginning the 800 in second.

San Diego State continues its quest for the MWC outdoor track and field title tomorrow as it returns to the SDSU Sports Deck at noon.
