COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - For the second time this season and the third time in her career, San Diego State junior Christina Ross (Santa Clarita, Calif./University of Kansas) has been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week after her performance against Brown last week. It was the fifth time this season an Aztec has won a conference weekly award.

The 2006 MWC Pitcher of the Year, Ross tossed her first career perfect game in SDSU's 8-0, five-inning victory over visiting Brown on Wednesday. The left-hander threw 60 pitches (42 for strikes) in what is the first known perfect game in Aztec history.

In the perfect-game effort against Brown, Ross struck out six batters and did not allow a single ball out of the infield. The shutout was her seventh of the season after recording eight in her first two years combined.

In 136 2/3 innings this season, Ross is 15-6 with a 1.54 ERA and 118 strikeouts, both good for second in the MWC.

Ross is joined by sophomores Monica Alnes (Player of the Week) and Melissa Owens (Pitcher of the Week, twice) as Aztecs who have won weekly awards this season.

The Aztecs (23-12) will kick off their conference schedule in a doubleheader on Thursday against BYU at SDSU Softball Stadium. The first game is slated to begin at 3 p.m., with the nightcap scheduled to start at 5 p.m. CSTV will broadcast the opening game of the doubleheader.
