ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The San Diego State surrendered three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to fall, 6-4, to New Mexico at Albuquerque, N.M., Sunday afternoon. The Aztecs fell to 2-6 in the Mountain West Conference and 25-18 with the loss, while the Lobos improved to 2-1 and 12-14.

New Mexico got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Samantha Hughes scored on a SDSU throwing error and Analise Rubalcava scored on a single by Katie Gilmore.

The Aztecs got one back in the second when sophomore Christine Kulick (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) singled home freshman Janae Portugal (San Diego/Westview HS).

A pair of RBI singles by junior Tamani Wells (Concord, Calif.) and sophomore Monica Alnes (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) in the third plated freshman Brittany Knudsen (San Diego/Escondido HS) and Wells, respectively, to put SDSU up, 3-2.

The Lobos tied it in the bottom of the third after Becky Dover's single scored pinch-runner Jennifer Deitrich from second.

The game would remain 3-3 until New Mexico used four hits to score three runs in the sixth. Rubalcava, Amy Ray and Katie Gilmore each recorded RBI in the big Lobo inning.

Senior Amanda Beasley (San Diego/Mount Miguel HS) doubled home Wells in the seventh with two outs to bring the Aztecs within two runs. New Mexico pitcher Kelly Ninemore, however, got Alnes to ground out to second to end the game.

Knudsen (2-for-3, triple, run), Wells (2-for-3, two runs, RBI), Alnes (2-for-4, RBI) and sophomore Dani Sidoti (Tucson, Ariz.) each had two hits to lead the SDSU offense.

Junior Christina Ross (Santa Clarita, Calif.) (17-9) scattered 10 hits and five earned runs over six innings to take the loss for the Aztecs. She struck out six, but issued a season-high six walks.

San Diego State will travel to UNLV for single games on Saturday and Sunday.
