SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - San Diego State sent 12 men to the plate and scored seven times in the second inning en route to an 8-3 win over Utah Friday evening at Franklin Covey Field in Salt Lake City. The victory was the Aztecs' fifth straight in league play as they improved to 22-15 overall and 7-2 in the Mountain West Conference. The loss put an end to the Utes' three-game win streak as they dropped to 14-19 (3-4 MWC).

SDSU's big inning began with Brian Lucas being hit by pitch. One out later, Matt Parker drew a walk after which Mike Willeford singled to bring home Lucas and send Parker to third. A walk to Cameron Johnson set the stage for an RBI single by Troy Hanzawa that brought home a run and kept the bases loaded.

At that point, Utah starting pitcher Kerr Foster (0-3) was lifted in favor of reliever Stephen Fife, who was unable to stop the Aztecs' rally. Nick Romero greeted Fife with a two-run single to right to make it a 4-0 game.

After the second out of the inning, Brandon Glover singled sharply to left to drive home the fifth run of the inning. After Lucas walked to re-load the bases, Garett Green lined a base-hit to right to score the final two runs and give SDSU a 7-0 advantage.

San Diego State starter Donnie Hume, who had worked his way out of a jam in the opening inning, had his only rough spell of the night in the bottom of the second as the Utes put together four straight hits with two out and scored three runs to cut the deficit to 7-3.

From there, Hume kept the Ute bats under control over the next three-plus frames as he went a total of 5.2 innings to pick up the win and improve to 4-2. He finished the night having allowed a total of seven hits and three walks while striking out four. Aztec relievers J.R. Murphy (1.1 innings) and Mike Koons (2.0 innings) retired the final 10 Ute hitters including four via the strikeout.

Garett Green led all SDSU hitters with a double and two singles while driving in a pair of runs. Brandon Glover had a pair of hits, an RBI and scored once. In addition, Cameron Johnson scored twice including SDSU's final run in the fourth when he reached third on a Ute fielding error and came home on a wild pitch.

San Diego State and Utah will continue their three-game weekend series on Saturday, Apr. 14, with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. (MDT).
