RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - San Diego State junior Jamie Puterbaugh (Carlsbad, Calif.) shot a 4-under-par 140 on Monday to lead the Aztec men's golf team during the first two rounds of the Callaway Golf Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. As a team, SDSU heads into Tuesday's final round in second place after carding 6-over 582 at the 6,920-yard, par-72 Farms Golf Club, just one shot in back of front-runner Texas-Arlington (+5) and three shots ahead of tournament host San Diego (+9). On the individual leaderboard, Puterbaugh finds himself alone in third place after 36 holes, while fellow classmate Aaron Goldberg (Encinitas, Calif.) sits one stroke behind in a fourth-place tie after shooting a 3-under 141.

Following a 1-over 73 in Monday's opening round, Puterbaugh stormed back with a vengeance over the second 18 holes, posting a 5-under 67 for his best score since Oct. 9, when he fired a 66 during the second round of the District 7 Shootout in Las Vegas, Nev. With his effort, the La Costa Canyon High alumnus trails co-leaders Andrew Landry of Arkansas and Texas-Arlington's Bryce Easton by only one shot after both players returned to the clubhouse with a 5-under 139. Goldberg, meanwhile, also got hot in the afternoon, climbing out the 18th position with a 3-under 69 for his team-leading 14th round of the season below par.

After a strong start, sophomore Adam Porzak suffered a reversal of fortune, however, falling off the pace to finish the day with a 6-over 150. The Poway, Calif., native carded a 2-under 70 during the morning, but ran into trouble over the ensuing 18 holes as he tumbled from the third spot into a tie for 32nd place with an 8-over 80. Junior Chad Moscovic (Stockton, Calif.), who competed as an individual, also recorded a 6-over 150 in his first action since the Barona Collegiate Cup last October.

Rounding out the Aztec contingent was junior Ryan Citarella (Santa Ana, Calif.), who fired a 9-over 153 to finish the day tied for 43rd, while senior Chris Cole (Abergavenny, Wales) completed the first two rounds in a tie for the 71st spot with a 16-over 160.

The third and final round of the Callaway Golf Invitational wraps up on Tuesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
