SAN DIEGO - Freshman Heather Vandevanter scored twice and Cat Walker added a goal and an assist to lead the San Diego State women's soccer team to a 3-0 exhibition victory over Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday morning at the SDSU Sports Deck.

The Aztecs outshot the Sea Lions, 18-3, for the game despite suiting up only 12 healthy skill players and two goalkeepers.

"I was very pleased with the way we played," coach Mike Friesen said. "We created a lot of good chances and defended well as a team."

Vandevanter scored SDSU's first and third goal, with her first coming off an assist from Walker and her third off an assist from sophomore Jillian Riker. Walker's goal was unassisted.

Sophomore Christi Yount played the first two 30-minute periods, while junior Melissa Deckers played the final 30 minutes. Neither Aztec goalie needed to make a save.

The Aztecs will be back in action on March 24 when they make the short drive north to Cal State Fullerton for a game at 9:30 a.m.
