SAN DIEGO - Junior left-handed pitcher Christina Ross (Santa Clarita, Calif.) threw her first collegiate perfect game to lead the San Diego State softball team to an 8-0 victory over Brown in five innings Wednesday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. SDSU (23-12), which had eight different players record a hit, has now won 10 of 11 games, while the Bears fell to 6-11.

Ross (15-6), the 2006 Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year, threw 60 pitches (42 for strikes) and did not allow a ball out of the infield. Of the 15 outs, six were strikeouts, five were groundouts and four were pop-ups.

The Aztecs scored four runs in the bottom of the second, three in the third and another in the fifth.

The four-run second was highlighted by a two-out, two-run triple by junior Tamani Wells (Concord, Calif.), her career-high third triple of the season. Freshman Katy Erickson (Tustin, Calif.) scored SDSU's first run on a throwing error by the Brown catcher and freshman Brittany Knudsen (San Diego/Escondido HS) singled home freshman Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) for its second run.

The Aztecs' three runs in the third came on an RBI single by sophomore Dani Sidoti (Tucson, Ariz.), a wild pitch that allowed junior Taryin Casillas (San Diego/Grossmont HS) to score, and an RBI groundout by Marquez.

After a scoreless fourth, SDSU tacked on its final run in the fifth when freshman Janae Portugal (San Diego/Westview HS) doubled to left to plate sophomore pinch-runner Christina Kulick (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) from second base. The double was Portugal's first career hit.

San Diego State begins its defense of the MWC championship on April 5 when it opens league play with a key doubleheader against 2006 NCAA participant Brigham Young. The first pitch of the opener is scheduled for 3 p.m.
