Aztec Women's Golf Sixth After First Day Of Oregon Duck Invitational

The San Diego State women's golf team stands in sixth place after day one and the first two rounds of the Oregon Duck Invitational Monday at the par-72, 6,069-yard Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction City, Ore. The Aztecs logged a 316 in the day's first 18 holes, followed by a 318 to put them at 58-over 634 for the tournament, just one stroke behind fifth place Boise State and two in back of fourth place Oregon State.

San Diego State was led by sophomore Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) and junior Kim Carmody (Palatine, Ill.), who are both tied for eighth place at 10-over 154. Kamimura posted a team-best 75 in the first 18 holes, followed by a 79 in the second round. She also leads the tournament field in par-5 scoring at 2-under, propelling the Aztecs to the top mark as a team in par-5 scoring at 3-over par.

After finishing SDSU's most recent event at UNLV with a career-best 76, Carmody continued to improve firing a 4-over 76, followed by a 6-over 78 to end up with a 154, her lowest career 36-hole score by four strokes.

Aztec sophomore Alana Erlandson (Palm Desert, Calif.) is tied for 29th with a 162, including a second-round 79. Co-captains redshirt sophomore Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.) and senior Jamie Oliver (Los Alamitos, Calif.) are 39th and 47th respectively in the 81-golfer field.

The University of San Francisco, ranked 38th nationally by Golfweek, leads the 15-team field with a two-round total of 39-over 615, three strokes better than second place and No. 43 Washington State. Reigning individual champion USF's Jessica Potter is atop the leaderboard once again with a 4-over 148, just one better than her teammate Kristin Nichols.

San Diego State finishes action in Oregon Tuesday morning with a shotgun start for the final 18 holes beginning at 9 a.m. PT.
