Behind the play of sophomores Alana Erlandson (Palm Desert, Calif.) and Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.), the San Diego State women's golf team stands in a four-way tie for seventh place following the first 18 holes of the UNLV Spring Invitational Monday in Boulder City, Nev. The Aztecs logged a team season-best round of 10-over 298, tying them with USF, Nebraska and Texas Tech at the par-72, 6,199-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Kamimura logged her first even-par round this season, ending up with a 72 to tie her for 18th place in the 96-golfer field. The sophomore was at 2-under par entering the final hole, which would have put her eighth overall, but she double-bogeyed the 18th after collecting 15 pars and two birdies on the day. Kamimura logged a career-best 69 on the same course a year ago.

Erlandson, who leads the Aztecs in season stroke average entering this week, also put together a strong round. After three bogeys in her first five holes, she rallied to birdie the 10th and 11th, before carding a 1-over 73, which ties her for 26th place.

Just one stroke separates two more SDSU teammates with senior Jamie Oliver (Los Alamitos, Calif.) firing a 4-over 76 (tied-49th) and sophomore Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.) ending up at 5-over 79 (tied for 60th). Junior transfer Kim Carmody (Palatine, Ill.) rounded out the Aztecs' starting five with a season-best 7-over 79 in the first round.

Brigham Young currently leads the invitational at 8-under 280, four strokes ahead of fellow Mountain West Conference member New Mexico, which is at 4-under 284. Cougar Rachel Newren holds a slight one stroke edge in the race for medalist honors after posting a 5-under 67.

San Diego State continues its first 54-hole tournament of the spring with the second round Tuesday morning.
