SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State track and field squad opens its 2007 outdoor season Saturday, March 10, at the San Diego City Championships in La Jolla, Calif. The meet is the Aztecs' first after a two-week layoff and comes after a fourth-place showing at the Mountain West Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The one-day event will take place on the campus of UC San Diego and will feature the host Tritons, the Aztecs and fellow San Diego universities Point Loma Nazarene, CS San Marcos and Alliant International.

The championships will have team scoring, however last season, competition was limited to just individual results due to inclement weather.

San Diego State will take a large contingent to La Jolla, but will be without the services of freshman Stephanie Bagan, who will be the lone Aztec to represent SDSU at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark. The MWC pole vault champion was selected to participate at the national meet after a provisional qualifying vault of 13 feet, 5.25 inches.

Following the city championships, San Diego State will play host to the Aztec Invitational at SDSU Sports Deck on March 16-17. The home meet will be the first of two held on Montezuma Mesa as the MWC Outdoor Championships will return to "America's Finest City" for the first time since 2001 in May.
