SAN DIEGO - San Diego State freshman Stephanie Bagan is set to compete in the pole vault at the 43rd annual NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, March 10, in Fayetteville, Ark. The meet is scheduled to take place at the Randal Tyson Track Center and will be hosted by the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
The Granite Bay, Calif., native recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 13 feet, 5.25 inches at the Mountain West Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., to make herself eligible for selection to the national championship. Bagan's performance earned her the conference pole vault title and was awarded the women's outstanding performance award at the conclusion of the meet.
Bagan enters the event as one of 17 competitors, one of three freshmen and one of four vaulters from the West Coast. Last season, Erin Asay finished seventh at the same venue en route to becoming the first San Diego State indoor All-American.
The rest of the San Diego State squad will open its 2007 outdoor campaign in La Jolla, Calif., at the San Diego City Championships on Saturday, March 10, as well.
