SAN DIEGO - Despite posting three victories in singles play, the 46th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team went down to its third-straight defeat on Friday, falling to No. 52 Arizona, 4-3, at Aztec Tennis Center. With the loss, the Aztecs drop to 3-4 on the season, while the Wildcats snapped a three-match slide of their own, improving to 2-3.

SDSU unveiled three new doubles teams to start the afternoon, but still found itself in a 1-0 hole after dropping two of three matches. First off the court was the duo of Esther Cadua and Kathryn Kitts, who suffered an 8-5 setback at the hands of Arizona's Juliette Mavroleon and Katie Orletsky at the No. 3 position. The Wildcats then clinched the crucial point when the No. 2 pairing of Danielle Steinberg and Camelia Todorova ousted the Aztec tandem of Holly Bagshaw and Sisse Nielsen by the same 8-5 margin. The Scarlet and Black prevented a sweep as the team of Eliska Krausova and Alesya Vidov upended the Arizona twosome of Kasia Jakowlew and Natalia Toporowska, 8-6 on the No. 1 court.

Vidov was also triumphant over Jakowlew in singles play, recording a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot to even the score at 1-1. Any hopes of an Aztec comeback were soon dashed, however, as the Wildcats responded with three straight victories to ice the match. Krausova dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Mavroleon in the No. 2 position, while Kitts experienced a nearly identical fate in the No. 6 slot, falling to Todorova, 6-2, 6-4. The clinching point came on the No. 1 court where Bagshaw was dealt a straight-set defeat by Steinberg, 7-6(5), 6-2.

SDSU closed out the day with a pair of wins to account for the final outcome. At the fifth spot, Milana Yusupov fought back from a one-set deficit to upend Tina Razloznik, 4-6, 7-6(3), 10-8, for her first victory of the dual-match season. On the No. 4 court, Cadua dropped the first set in her battle with Toporowska and appeared to be headed for certain defeat, facing a 5-1 deficit in the second set. But the Aztec sophomore persevered, engineering a stirring comeback to take the match, 6-7(4), 7-5, 10-4.

SDSU will return to courts next week when it travels north to tangle with fifth-ranked USC on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at Marks Tennis Stadium in Los Angeles. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m. PST.
