SAN DIEGO - Visiting TCU used a 10-0 run at the end of the first half to pull away from host San Diego State, as the Aztecs went on to fall to the Lady Frogs, 78-61, Wednesday in women's basketball action at Cox Arena. With the loss, SDSU, which had won its previous three home games, fell to 12-14 overall and 5-10 in conference play. TCU improved to 20-9 and 10-5 in league action after sweeping the season series.

"I don't think that we played a poor game," SDSU head coach Beth Burns said. "I like the fact that when they jumped ahead, we responded and didn't lose our poise. We kept chipping away at their lead and did the best that we could. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the other team."

Junior forward Shanna Demus (Palmdale, Calif.) was one of two Aztecs in double-figure scoring, contributing 14 points to go with two blocks, five steals and a career-high six assists. Fellow junior Shannon Clay (Inglewood, Calif.) had 10 points, while Tamika Lipford (Oceanside, Calif.) chipped in a nine points. Three other SDSU players finished with eight points apiece. Freshman Quenese Davis (Sacramento, Calif.) tallied a team-high five rebounds, but had nine turnovers to go with her eight points and three assists.

San Diego State notched two of the first three buckets of the game, going up by three on a triple by Lipford at 5-2. TCU hit the next two field goals for a 7-5 advantage, but the two sides traded leads again at 11-10 with SDSU jumping ahead on a layup by Demus.

The Lady Frogs regained the lead 20 seconds later and were up by as many as 10 points at 25-15 and 27-17. SDSU rallied to cut its deficit all the way down to three on two occasions. TCU, however, ended the half on a 10-0 run in the final 3:07 and headed into the locker room up by 13 at 39-26.

The visitor's, who logged an SDSU opponent season-best 52.4 field-goal percentage, continued to find success on offense, increasing its lead to 27 at the 9:56 mark. The Aztecs managed to get to within 17 with 2:42 remaining and again at the final buzzer, 78-61.

TCU was led by forward Hanna Biernacka and guard Adrianne Ross, who each contributed 18 points, while Jenna Lohse had 15 points off the bench.

San Diego State plays host to New Mexico in both schools' season finales on Saturday beginning at noon at Cox Arena. The game is the final home outing for the Aztecs' two seniors, center Desiree Johnson and forward Erin Jackson.
