Aztec senior Jamie Oliver (Los Alamitos, Calif.) logged a first round 4-over par 76 to lead the San Diego State women's golf team Monday at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational. Oliver is tied for 16th place in the 92-golfer field, while SDSU is 15th in the team standings with a 30-over 318 after the first 18 holes at the par-72, 6,072-yard Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif.
Oliver is four strokes off the pace set by a trio of golfers, including two from UC Irvine, who are tied for the tournament lead at even-par 72. UC Irvine also leads the team standings with a first-round 9-over 297, two better than host Fresno State. The Aztecs are 15th overall, but are just three strokes out of 13th place and five out of 10th entering the second and final day.
Oliver had two birdies in the first round and was at 1-over on the front nine, but carded bogeys on each of her final two holes to end the day at 4-over. Sophomores Alana Erlandson (Palm Desert, Calif.) and Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.) are separated by just one stroke at 7-over 79 and 8-over 80 to finish in a tie for 40th and 50th place, respectively.
Junior transfer Kim Carmody (Palatine, Ill.) and sophomore Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) both struggled in the first day of competition and are in 80th and 88th place.
