OKLAHOMA CITY - The San Diego State swimming and diving team completed its 2006-07 season with a ninth-place finish at the Mountain West Conference championship meet in Oklahoma City. The Aztecs ended the four-day event with a team score of 145 to finish 38 points behind eight-place Air Force which scored 173. Brigham Young captured the team title with 747 points.
The lone Aztec to advance to a final on Saturday was junior Katie Smith in the 200 backstroke. She finished in a time of 2:05.11 winning the B final and placing ninth overall after having finished sixth in the 100 fly on Friday. Her time in the 200 was the best by an SDSU swimmer this season.
In the 1650 freestyle, an event in which there were no preliminaries, the trio of Emily Parker (17:41.81), Brittany Daly (17:45.42) and Rosalie Raymond (17:57.40) finished 17th, 19th and 21st respectively.
The final event of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay, saw the Aztecs finish eighth with a time of 3:33.84. The quartet of Daly, Ana Dowell, Kimberlee Frith and Parker turned in the Aztecs' season-best mark by almost four seconds.
SDSU will now look forward to the fall and a new era as they will open their new swimming and diving facility, the Aztec Aquaplex, when they resume competition later this year.
