Two Hottest Teams in the Mountain West Conference Tangle at Cox on Saturday as SDSU Plays Host to BYU
San Diego State (19-8 overall; 8-5 MWC), winners of six of its last seven games, looks to secure its second consecutive 20-win season for the first time in the school's Division I history and the first time in 40 years when the Aztecs play host to 21st/22nd-ranked Brigham Young (21-6 overall; 11-2 MWC) on Saturday afternoon at Cox Arena.

Game time is set for 3 p.m. PT and the contest will be televised by CSTV. The game can also be heard up and down the west coast on XX Sports Radio (1090-AM and 105.7-FM in San Diego).

On Tuesday, SDSU responded from its only loss in more than a month (since Jan. 23rd), with an 81-74 overtime victory at New Mexico. It marked the Aztecs' sixth win in 29 all-time meetings in Albuquerque and the second consecutive season San Diego State won at The Pit.

Senior guard Brandon Heath became the first Aztec player to record a 30-point game this season as he scored a game-high 30 points on the strength of five three-point field goals. Junior forward Jerome Habel posted his first double-double with 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Lorrenzo Wade flirted with the first triple-double in the 86-season history of Aztec basketball with 16 points, nine rebounds and a career-high eight assists. Sophomore Richie Williams made a critical three-pointer late in regulation and added seven assists and just two turnovers in 40 minutes.

For the second time this season and for the 14th time in the Steve Fisher era, SDSU rallied from a double-digit deficit to win. SDSU held the Lobos to 36.8 percent field goal shooting overall and 27.3 percent (9-of-33) from three-point range. The Aztecs enjoyed a 50-42 rebound advantage in the contest despite senior forward Mohamed Abukar, SDSU's second leading scorer and rebounder on the season, playing just 28 minutes due to foul trouble.

San Diego State, which defeated 15th/13th-ranked Air Force by 21 points earlier in the month, is looking to win consecutive games against nationally-ranked teams since 1988 and will try to win games against two top-25 teams in one month for the first time since December, 1978.

The Aztecs have won five straight home games, are 12-2 at home this season and have won 23 of their last 26 games played at Cox Arena. In its last two home contests, San Diego State has defeated the 16th-ranked RPI team in Air Force (62-41) and the 10th-ranked RPI team in UNLV (67-52).

Saturday marks the 60th meeting between the long-time rivals, with the Cougars owning a 40-19 series lead. BYU handed SDSU its worst loss of the season on Jan. 6, an 80-58 setback in Provo. Despite that loss, the Aztecs have won three of the last five games overall, including the last three encounters in San Diego.
