SAN DIEGO - Freshman Brittany Knudsen (San Diego) hit a two-run homer and junior pitcher Christina Ross (Santa Clarita, Calif.) tossed her second consecutive shutout to lead the San Diego State softball team to a 4-0 triumph over North Texas in the second day of the Texas Invitational Saturday in Austin. With the victory, the Aztecs (4-4) earned the No. 1 seed after round-robin play and will meet No. 4 seed Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 7:30 p.m. CST later in the day.

With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, Knudsen ripped a 3-2 pitch over the fence in right-center field fence for her second career homer. Junior Taryin Casillas (San Diego), who reached on an error by Mean Green (3-5) second baseman Sarah Jones, also scored on the play as SDSU jumped out to the 2-0 lead.

The Aztecs tacked on two more runs in the sixth when freshman Katy Erickson (Tustin, Calif.) scored on a single by Casillas and sophomore Kasey Mytinger (San Diego) reached home after a Knudsen single and error by North Texas centerfielder Taylor Johnston.

Knudsen and sophomore Melissa Owens (San Diego) finished with two hits apiece to lead the SDSU offense.

One day after giving up just two hits in the Aztecs' 3-0 win over No. 10 Texas, Ross (3-2) allowed five hits and no walks for her third shutout of the season. She struck out four batters and induced 13 groundouts and lowered her ERA to 0.68.
