AUSTIN, Texas - Freshman Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) capped a three-run fifth inning with a two-run homer to lead the San Diego State softball team to a 3-0 victory over No. 10 Texas at the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas on Friday. The Aztecs, who defeated Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 10-2, in five innings earlier in the day, improved to 3-4 with the victory.

With one out in the top of the fifth, senior Amanda Beasley (San Diego) and junior Tamani Wells (Concord, Calif.) hit consecutive singles and moved up a base on an error by Texas (4-2) third baseman Crystal Saenz. On the ensuing at-bat, Beasley got SDSU on the scoreboard when she raced home following a wild pitch by the Longhorns' Meagan Denny.

One batter later with Wells on third base, Marquez laced a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right-center field for her first career home run.

Aztec pitcher Christina Ross (2-2) kept the Texas batters off-balanced all day, allowing just two hits over seven innings for her second shutout of the season. She struck out two batters and walked two.

Beasley and junior Taryin Casillas (San Diego) had two hits apiece for San Diego State, which outhit the Longhorns, 8-2, in the game.

In the opener, after spotting the Islanders (0-7) two runs in the top of the first inning, SDSU scored the final 10 runs of the game for a 10-2, five-inning victory.

Sophomore Melissa Owens (San Diego) went 2-for-2, and added two runs, two walks and an RBI to lead the Aztec offense. Junior Megan McDonald (Glendale, Ariz.) added two hits, including an RBI double in the fourth, while freshman Brittany Knudsen (San Diego) went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Marquez went 1-for-2 and scored two runs, sophomore Kasey Mytinger (San Diego) had an RBI single in the fourth, and Wells had her first career triple in the fifth.

Owens (1-2) struck out six over five innings to pick up her first victory of the season. She allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits.

NOTES: With its win against No. 10 Texas, SDSU is now 2-1 against top-10 teams this year ... After scoring only five runs in their first five games, the Aztecs scored a combined 13 times in a pair of wins on Friday ... SDSU outhit its opponents, 17-6, on Friday. The Aztecs came into Friday with 26 hits to their opponents' 45 ... SDSU won both games despite playing without Monica Alnes (ankle), its second-leading hitter in 2006.
