LOS ANGELES - The 49th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team dropped its fourth consecutive dual match on Tuesday afternoon, falling to No. 5 Southern California, 7-0, at Marks Tennis Stadium in Los Angeles. With the defeat, the Aztecs slip to 3-5 on the season, while the Women of Troy remain unbeaten at 5-0.

SDSU had its hands full from the start as USC grabbed a 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches. The Women of Troy set the tone for the rest day as the tandem of Anca Anastasiu and Lindsey Nelson quickly dispatched the Aztec duo of Alesya Vidov and Eliska Krausova, 8-3, in the No. 1 position. USC then clinched the point after the 23rd-ranked team of Sarah Fansler and Dianne Matias ousted Kathryn Kitts and Esther Cadua, 8-1, in the No. 3 spot. Over on the No. 2 court, Holly Bagshaw and Sisse Nielsen kept things close for a while in their contest with the Women of Troy's No. 15 team of Judy DeVera and Amanda Fink. After creeping to within 5-3, however, the SDSU tandem could not close the gap as the USC duo pulled away for an 8-4 triumph.

The Women of Troy kept the pressure on singles play, pocketing all six matches in straight sets. Anastasiu got things rolling with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Nielsen in the fifth slot, while ninth-ranked Fansler upended No. 69 Krausova, 6-3, 6-1, on the No. 2 court. With a 3-0 advantage, USC sealed SDSU's fate when Fink dealt Vidov a 6-2, 6-2 defeat at the No. 2 position. The Women of Troy then extended their lead to 5-0 after Ozge Atalay succumbed to No. 95 DeVera, 6-2, 6-2, in the sixth slot.

The Scarlet and Black was unable to avoid the shutout despite two valiant efforts at Nos. 1 and 4, respectively. Bagshaw battled Nelson through a tough opening set, eventually falling 7-5. However, the Aztec sophomore could not generate any momentum the rest of the way, losing the second set, 6-3. Meanwhile, Cadua gave No. 46 Matias all she could handle in the last match of the day. After dropping the first set 6-2, the San Diego native forged a 3-1 lead in the second only to see her USC adversary storm back and take a 4-3 lead. Cadua managed to tie the score at 4-4, but that was as close as she could get, as Matias prevailed, 6-4.

SDSU returns to action on Friday, Feb. 16, when No. 27 Long Beach State visits Montezuma Mesa for a 2 p.m. clash at Aztec Tennis Center. The match will be the Aztecs' fifth straight against a nationally ranked opponent.
