NEW YORK - Former San Diego State water polo star Heather Moody is one of seven New York Athletic Club members who will be inducted into the NYAC Hall of Fame, the club announced Friday. Moody, along with Natalie Golda and Nicolle Payne of UCLA, represent the first female NYAC members ever to be inducted into its Hall of Fame.
All three women were teammates on the 2004 U.S. Olympic water polo team that won the bronze medal in Athens, Greece, with Moody serving as team captain. Moody and Golda were also joined by former Aztecs Kathy "Gubba" Sheehy and Rachel Scott at the 2000 Games in Sydney, Australia, helping the U.S. squad capture the silver medal.
In her only season on Montezuma Mesa in 1996, Moody scored 59 goals to go along with 23 assists and 60 steals, earning All-America honors along with fellow SDSU teammates Shae Philpott and Lisa Phillips. The Aztecs compiled a program-best 27-8 record that year and finished third in the National College Select Tournament, which served as the sport's national championship until 2001.
Induction ceremonies are scheduled to take place at a gala dinner on Thursday, Feb. 15. The 2007 NYAC Hall of Fame class also includes the late Wellington Mara, owner of the NFL's New York Giants, former NYAC president Robert Cullum and Olympic medalists Blaine Wilson (gymnastics - 2004) and Bobby Weaver (wrestling - 1984).
