LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Wyoming Cowgirls put together an 11-0 run in the final 2:44 of the first half to erase a five-point San Diego State advantage, going on to claim a 71-47 victory Wednesday evening at Arena-Auditorium. The Aztecs, who were outrebounded 16-6 on the offensive glass, fell to 8-7 overall and 1-3 in league action, while the Cowgirls improved to 11-5 and 2-2 in MWC play.

Aztec junior Jennifer Layton (Sacramento, Calif.) had a team-best 12 points and three blocks, while junior Shannon Clay (Inglewood, Calif.) added a career-high nine points to go with five rebounds. SDSU point guard Quenese Davis (Sacramento, Calif.) had four assists and four boards, but was held scoreless after posting double-figures in each of her previous three league outings this season.

Wyoming began the night with a 5-0 lead and also owned a five-point advantage on three more occasions, including at 16-11, before SDSU put together a run of its own to tie the game at 16. Coming out of another tie at 18 points apiece, Layton hit a three-pointer and added a long-range jumper from the near the top of the key to put the visitor's ahead by three at 23-20. Shanna Demus (Palmdale, Calif.) gave SDSU its largest lead of the night with a long-range two-pointer from the left baseline, as the Aztecs were up by five at 25-20.

From that point, the Cowgirls stalemated the Aztecs the rest of the half, going into the locker room on an 11-0 run in the final 2:44 to own a 31-25 advantage at the break.

SDSU's offensive struggles continued as Wyoming found its rhythm, jumping out to a 10-point lead before the Aztecs could net their first field goal of the second half at the 17-minute mark. The Cowgirls' advantage grew to as many as 30 points twice, before claiming the 71-47 victory.

The Aztecs shot 40.9 percent from the field, but had just two steals and 22 rebounds, while committing 18 turnovers. Wyoming, which was led by Aubrey Vandiver's 23 points, made five of its six three-pointers in the second half and committed just 12 turnovers on the night.

San Diego State completes its split week schedule Saturday when it plays host to Colorado State at Cox Arena at 2 p.m. in another league contest.
