SAN DIEGO - San Diego State freshman Lauren Hoisington (Las Vegas, Nev.) has been named the Mountain West Conference co-basketball player of the week, the league office announced Monday. Hoisington led the Aztecs to a 74-73 overtime victory against Wichita State on Sunday, posting her second double-double in the last three games with a career-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. She shares her first career player-of-the-week award with TCU's Ashley Davis.
Hoisington helped the Aztecs rally from a six-point deficit with less than three minutes remaining in regulation. The 6-2 forward scored eight of the team's final 10 points of the second half, including the game-tying bucket with 38 seconds left, to send the game into overtime. She shot 60 percent from the field (6-for-10), logged a season-best 85.7 percent (6-for-7) free-throw percentage and collected a career-best two steals.
Hoisington becomes the sixth SDSU player in the league's eight-year history to be named player of the week.
SDSU plays two games this week, beginning on Thursday, when it plays host to Cal Poly at 7 p.m. at Cox Arena. The Aztecs then face another in-state foe, Saint Mary's, on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
