SAN DIEGO (AP) - Kimberly Beck and Kenan Cole scored 13 points apiece and No. 17 George Washington beat San Diego State 76-42 in the Surf 'N Slam championship game Saturday night.
The Colonials (11-2) outscored the Aztecs 30-6 in the final 12 minutes of the first half to take a 39-17 halftime lead. George Washington shot 59.1 percent from the field in the half compared to 27.3 percent for San Diego State, which committed 16 turnovers before the break.
The Aztecs (7-4) had a tough time solving George Washington's zone defense, which pressured San Diego State into 25 percent shooting and 21 turnovers overall.
Beck, who also had six assists, was named the tournament MVP and was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Sarah-Jo Lawrence, who had nine points.
Jennifer Layton, also an all-tournament pick, led the Aztecs with eight points.
