-The Records: Off to its best start in 10 years, the San Diego State women's basketball team gets back to action Thursday following an 11-day break for final exams. The Aztecs are looking for their fifth-straight win when they play host to reigning West Coast Conference champion Pepperdine at Cox Arena at 7 p.m. SDSU's most recent outing resulted in a 62-57 win over Saint Mary's back on Dec. 10, improving its record to 5-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the month of December.
The Waves, meanwhile, have struggled with injury this season and are 7-5 overall, including losses in three of their last four outings. Pepperdine claimed last year's game with San Diego State, 70-56, in Malibu, and went on to finish with a 14-17 record and a trip to the NCAA tournament.
-SDSU Head Coach Beth Burns: Burns (Ohio Wesleyan, 1979) is in the second year of her second stint as head coach at San Diego State. She led the Aztecs for eight seasons from 1989 to 1997, before returning in 2005. She has an overall head coaching record of 240-175 in 15 seasons, while she is 159-110 in 10 campaigns at SDSU.
-Pepperdine's Head Coach Julie Rousseau: Julie Rousseau is in her third season at Pepperdine and has a career and school record of 33-39.
-Pepperdine Series History: Pepperdine and San Diego State meet for the 18th time, with the Aztecs leading the series with an 11-6 mark. SDSU is 5-2 in games played in San Diego and had claimed five straight and 10 of the last 11 prior to last season's loss (Last: Pepperdine def. SDSU,70-56, on Dec. 10, 2005, in Malibu, Calif.).
