SDSU also shutout its opponent in the first half of a game for the fourth time (also vs. UNLV, Air Force and Wisconsin) ... SDSU shutout its opponent in the first half in three of its final four home games of 2006.

In our territory:
Aztec opponents have started their drives in SDSU territory on 28 occasions in 2006, including twice today. The Aztecs have started a possession on their opponent's side of the field only five times this season.

Going Out In Style:
Aztec senior co-captain Joe Martin logged his seventh career game in double-figure tackles, including four this season. Martin ended his career with 214 career tackles.

Six Straight:
Junior defensive end Antwan Applewhite has recorded at least one sack in each of the last six games after not having any in the team's first six outings of 2006. For the season, he has 7.0 sacks for a loss of 52 yards. Applewhite, who led the team in that category a year ago (5.5 for 28 yards), has 17.0 career sacks for a loss of 101 yards.

Hughes Hits Them:
After missing the last two games with a shoulder injury, Aztec punter Michael Hughes returned to average 45.2 yards on six kicks tonight. Hughes had two punts for over 50 yards tonight, with two dropping inside the 20-yard line. On the season, Hughes had nine punts for over 50 yards with a long of 64. A year ago, he had 15, giving him 30 for his career.

O'Connell record book update:
Junior quarterback Kevin O'Connell moved into seventh place in Aztec school history in career completions with 407. O'Connell passed Mark Halda, who had 406 from 1977-80.

Baker Breakup:
SDSU senior cornerback Donny Baker finished tied for second in Aztec career history in pass breakups with 34, including three tonight. Baker is tied with Ricky Sharpe and Mario Mitchell. It is Baker's third career game with three or more PBUs.

Other Notes: Senior defensive tackle Emil Metroka got his first career start in his final career game tonight ... Donny Baker tallied his third interception of the season and the sixth of his career in the first half ... Junior linebacker Freddy Dunkle logged the Aztecs' first blocked punt of the year and the first of his career in the third quarter. It was SDSU's first blocked punt since Freddy Keiaho blocked one and returned it for a touchdown against New Mexico on Oct. 22, 2005.
