LAS VEGAS, Nev. - San Diego State divers captured four of the top eight places in the three-meter event during the first day of the UNLV Winter Invitational Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas as SDSU stands in fourth place among the 10 teams competing. Although the diving was held on Saturday, the points from that event will not be added into the team scores until the conclusion of the meet on Monday.

SDSU totaled 90 points after the first five swimming events of the meet to sit three places behind leader UC Santa Barbara at 295 points. Host UNLV is second at 240 while TCU is third with 209 points.

Sophomore Megan Flanagan led the Aztec divers, finishing second with 238.30 points. Along with Caitlin Atkinson (4th - 230.95), Kathleen Heuring (5th - 203.10) and Kristen Maurer (8th - 218.40), the divers will account for 57 points when their scores are added to the team total.

Among San Diego State's other top performers were senior Emily Parker and junior Brittany Daly in the 500 freestyle. Parker's time of 5:02.33 was a team best for the 2006-07 season while Daly set a season personal-best of 5:09.50.

Senior Kimberlee Frith finished second in the "B" final (10th overall) in a time of 24.39. Not only was it Frith's fastest time of the year, it was also an Aztec best this fall.

A pair of SDSU swimmers also scored points in the 200 individual medley. Katie Smith finished 11th overall with a mark of 2:09.38 while teammate Jessica Morrill was 14th in 2:12.96. Smith's time established the fastest for an Aztec during the current season.

San Diego State continues competition at the UNLV Winter Invitational on Sunday (Dec. 17) and will finish up the three-day event on Monday (Dec. 18). Events during the Invitational will also be used to score a dual meet between UNLV and SDSU after the final event on Monday.
