KANEOHE, Hawaii - The San Diego State men's golf team jumped from eighth place into a tie for third on Tuesday during the second round of the University of Hawai'i Fall Intercollegiate in Kaneohe, Hawaii. The Aztecs shot an even-par 288 on the 6,528-yard, par-72 Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, tying Saint Mary's for the second-best round of the day out of 16 teams. SDSU has carded a 6-over 582 thus far for the tournament, creating a logjam in the third position along with Saint Mary's, New Mexico State and the College of Charleston. Loyola Marymount (-2) remains atop the team standings, followed by cross-town rival San Diego (+4).

Leading the Aztecs' resurgence was junior Aaron Goldberg (Encinitas, Calif.), who fired a 2-under 70 on Tuesday to climb nine spots into a tie for fifth with a combined 2-under 144 after 36 holes. With his performance, the La Costa Canyon High alumnus sits just three shots behind second-round leaders Brian Locke of LMU and the College of Charleston's Gari Maton heading into Wednesday's final round.

Following an opening-round 71, sophomore Adam Porzak (Poway, Calif.) slid back from 10th place into a tie for 15th after firing a 2-over 74 on Tuesday. SDSU's three remaining golfers, however, were able to better their positions after Monday's finishes.

Senior Cory Segall (La Jolla, Calif.) made the most dramatic improvement, vaulting from 55th into a tie for 34th after shooting an even-par 72. The La Jolla High product equaled his best round of the year, finishing the first 36 holes with a four-over 148. Fellow classmate Chris Cole found himself with the same score after two rounds, as the Abergavenny, Wales, native carded a 1-over 73 on Tuesday to climb 12 places out of the 46th spot.

Rounding out the Aztec delegation was junior Jamie Puterbaugh (Carlsbad, Calif.), who jumped from 58th into a tie for 48th after shooting a 1-over 73 for a combined 6-over 150.

San Diego State wraps up the fall portion of its 2006-07 schedule on Wednesday with the final 18 holes of the UH Fall Intercollegiate, starting at 8 a.m. HT with another shotgun start.
