LAS VEGAS - The San Diego State women's volleyball team saw its 2006 season come to an end as it dropped a 3-0 (30-21, 30-25, 30-16) decision to Colorado State in a semifinal match at the mountain West Conference Tournament in Las Vegas. With the loss, the Aztecs finish 12-18 while Colorado State, which moved into the tourney final against the UNLV-Utah winner, improved to 19-9.

Melanie Greene led SDSU with 10 kills and 13 digs as she finished off her SDSU career with her 12th double-double of the 2006 campaign. SDSU's other senior leader, Audra Dent, contributed nine kills and added six digs, two blocks with an assist in her final match for the red and black.

Junior libero Aime Cordeiro led all players with 19 digs as she added to the Aztec single-season digs record that she established in SDSU's previous match. Cordeiro ended the season with 573 digs to shatter the old mark of 545 set by Jackie Mendes in 1988.

San Diego State, which was dominant at the net with 21.5 team blocks in the upset win over Brigham Young on Thursday, managed only four blocks against the Rams, who hit .331 for the match. Kelley Wahlin led SDSU with three blocks on the afternoon.

The Aztecs hit just .099 over the three games against a tough Colorado State defensive effort. After recording a .179 attack percentage in the opening game, SDSU was held to .062 and .068 over the next two contests.

In the opening contest, the score was tied at 6-6 when CSU scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 15-8 lead. Greene had five kills for SDSU, but the Rams hit .528 fro the game as they committed just two attack errors on 36 attempts.

The second game was a much closer affair that saw the teams tied late at 23-all. However, three straight points gave the Rams the momentum as they finished off the contests with a five-point win. Dent had four kills while defensively Cordeiro had 10 digs.

Game three began with CSU running out to a 15-3 lead as the Rams dominated to put an end to any Aztec hopes of a comeback. Greene, Dent and Stephanie Darnall had three kills apiece for SDSU against a Colorado State side that hit .343 in the game.
