MORAGA, Calif. (AP) - Mohamed Abukar scored 22 points and Brandon Heath had 20 as San Diego State defeated Seattle Pacific 76-73 at the Shamrock Invitational at Saint Mary's College on Sunday.
San Diego State (3-0) had a nine-point lead with 1:42 to play, but Heath missed his final three free throws as the Falcons rallied. JoJay Jackson hit a 3-pointer for Seattle Pacific (1-2) with 1:28 to play, but a foul shot by Heath with 38 seconds left put San Diego State ahead 79-69.
Dustin Bremerman, who led Seattle Pacific with 34 points, scored on a layup, then made a steal and scored another layup to cut the margin to three with 27 seconds to play. But a final 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed, giving San Diego State the win.
San Diego State used a 23-6 free-throw advantage to win the game, going to the line 20 times in the second half as it wore down Division II Seattle Pacific. The Aztecs were 16-of-20 in the second half.
