PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - The San Diego State doubles team of Eliska Krausova (Prague, Czech Republic) and Sisse Nielsen (Alleroed, Denmark) wrapped up play on Wednesday at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships presented by Fila. After suffering a defeat in the opening round of Tuesday's qualifying matches, the Aztec duo notched a pair of victories in the consolation bracket of the tournament, which was held at Riviera Tennis Club.
Krausova and Nielsen, ranked 43rd in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) preseason doubles poll, opened the day with an 8-6 triumph over 53rd-ranked Mallory Voelker and Neela Vaez of Purdue. Later in the afternoon, the tandem had another close call against the Georgia pairing of Monica Dancevic and Yvette Hyndman, but still prevailed, 9-7.
The Riviera/ITA All-American Tennis Championships are the first of three collegiate tournaments which comprise the women's grand slam along with the ITA National Indoor Championships in November and the NCAA Championships next May.
SDSU returns to action in two weeks when it competes in the Wilson/ITA West Regional Championships, Oct. 19-23, at Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
