SAN DIEGO - In the second day of competition at the USD Torero Challenge, the San Diego State men's tennis team won two of its eight matches versus UC Irvine. The Aztecs took one singles and one doubles match from the Anteaters on Sunday.
Redshirt freshman Michael Beron (San Diego, Calif.) and junior Nima Ossareh (Bethesda, Md.) had the lone doubles victory for SDSU. The duo defeated Douglas Taylor and Andrei Radulescu, 8-6.
In singles play, Beron was the only member of the Aztec squad to secure a victory. The redshirt freshman defeated the sophomore Taylor, who was his opponent in his doubles match, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. All of the other Aztecs who competed in singles play took the match to a deciding third set but came up on the short end. Seniors Markus Dickhardt (Marburg, Germany) and Christian Groh (Crailsheim, Germany) did not compete in today's action.
The USD Torero Challenge concludes tomorrow with SDSU having the early start with cross-town rival USD at 9:30 a.m. from the USD West Tennis Courts.
