SAN DIEGO - In a game that was physical from the beginning, the USD Toreros defeated the San Diego State women's soccer team, 2-0, at Torero Stadium. The Toreros scored one goal in each half to notch the victory.

SDSU had a scoring opportunity early in the game when Aztec sophomore Alicia Piz (Morrison, Colo.), who was making her first start of the 2006, fired a shot at Torero goalkeeper Brittany Cameron, who came out of the goal to make the save.

The Toreros had their opportunities early in the first half but junior goalkeeper Cat Burson (Poway, Calif.) was there to make the stops to keep USD off the scoreboard. On one play, Burson swatted out a Torero shot and two minutes later stopped a Leigh Ann Robinson shot to keep the game scoreless. However, USD would eventually find the net when Christine Mock threaded the needle to Robinson, the Torero's leading goal scorer, who fired it in the lower right corner to give USD the 1-0 lead.

Burson was kept busy in the second half, making two more saves to give her a total of seven for the game. With Burson keeping the game at 1-0, San Diego State had an opportunity to tie the game when freshman Lauren Leslie (San Clemente, Calif.) ended up with the ball off a corner kick. Leslie fired a shot from outside the box that hit the left post and bounced out.

In the 68th minute, Robinson drove the ball down toward the SDSU goal and fired a shot at Burson. The ball hit Burson, but deflected away from her toward the far post and rolled in to make it 2-0 Toreros.

Sophomores Mariko Strickland (Kaua'i, Hawaii) and Erika Sutton (Arvada, Colo.) along with freshman Cat Walker (Folsom, Calif.) led the Aztecs with two shots.

SDSU (6-10-2, 2-2-2 MWC) will play its final regular season contest in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday versus TCU. Kickoff is slated for 10 a.m. PT.
