AZTECS RETURN HOME FOR PAIR OF MWC CONTESTS
*** After playing four straight league matches on the road, San Diego State returns home this weekend for a pair of contests against Mountain West Conference opposition.
*** On Friday, Oct. 27, the Aztecs will host New Mexico at 7:00 p.m. (PDT) in Peterson Gym.
*** Two days later (Sunday, Oct. 29), SDSU will square off against TCU in a match schedule for a noon start in Peterson Gym.
*** Sunday's contests vs. the Horned Frogs will be televised by The mtn television network. The game will not be streamed live on the Internet.

SERIES RECORDS
*** The Aztecs are 26-11 in the series against New Mexico, including wins in 13 of the last 15 meetings between the teams. The series goes back to 1976 when the Lobos claimed a 3-1 victory in Peterson Gym. The schools have met annually since 1990 when both were members of the Western Athletic Conference. This season, the Lobos swept the Aztecs in three games in Albuquerque in late September. SDSU has a record of 11-4 against the Lobos in matches played in San Diego.
*** San Diego State has won four of its previous five matches against TCU as the Frogs recorded their first-ever win over SDSU in Fort Worth earlier this season. The first two contests between the teams came during the 1997 season when SDSU and the Horned Frogs were members of the Western Athletic Conference. San Diego State won 3-0 in Peterson Gym and 3-1 in Fort Worth. Last season, TCU's first as a member of the MWC, saw SDSU triumph over the Horned Frogs both at home (3-1) and away (3-0).

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
*** New Mexico comes into the week having lost six of its last seven matches with its lone win coming vs. Air Force last weekend. The Lobos' record stands at 7-15 overall and 3-7 in league play. UNM is led by right side hitter Kelly Therkelsen (2.80 kpg, 1.43 dpg, 0.93 bpg) and middle blocker Jeanne Fairchild (2.98 kpg, 0.98 dpg). New Mexico has two players averaging over a block per game led by Joelle Ingram at 1.12 bpg.
*** TCU, which visits UNLV Friday evening prior to facing SDSU, is 17-7 overall and 5-5 in the MWC. The Horned Frogs have turned it around after finishing 16-18 (3-13 MWC) in 2005. TCU's top players include middle blocker Anna Vaughn (3.55 kpg, .350, 1.03 bpg) and outside hitter Lemeita Smith (3.00 kpg, 0.52 bpg). The Horned Frogs lead the conference in service aces with five players averaging better than 0.33 per game.

HEAD COACH Mark Warner
*** San Diego State head coach Mark Warner is in his 12th season at the helm of the Aztec women's program. His career record over that span stands at 185-175 (.514).
*** Over the past 11 years, Warner has led his teams to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths and a Western Athletic Conference championship. His tutelage has produced 15 all-conference players and he was named the Mountain West Conference co-coach of the year in 2002.

MOST RECENTLY
*** Last week, San Diego State dropped a pair of Mountain West Conference matches to nationally-ranked league foes on the road.
*** On Friday (Oct. 20), the Aztecs were defeated by 10th-ranked Utah in three games (30-22, 30-17, 30-23) in Salt Lake City. Melanie Greene's nine kills led SDSU, which was held to a 0.88 attack percentage by the Utes. Libero Aime Cordeiro had 19 digs to lead all players.
*** The next evening (Oct. 21), SDSU lost another three-game match (30-20, 30-22, 30-27) at 18th-ranked Brigham Young. Audra Dent had a team-high 11 kills along with three blocks. Kelley Wahlin and Bailee Hellwig had seven and six blocks respectively.

WAHLIN ON THE BLOCK
*** Junior Kelley Wahlin recorded 13 blocks over San Diego State's two matches last weekend, an average of 2.17 per game. She also had a hitting percentage of .350 in those two contests.
*** She continues to rank among the top 10 blockers in the Mountain West Conference. She ranks fifth in the MWC stats this week both overall (1.36 bpg) and in league matches only (1.37 bpg).
*** She set a career high with 15 kills in the win over Wyoming on Oct. 5. Her previous best was eight kills in a match, which she has done on three occasions this season.
*** Wahlin's 10 total blocks (2 solo, 8 assists) at Oregon on Sept. 9 was a career high and is also the best for an Aztec in 2006.
*** Her current .312 hitting percentage overall is the eighth-best mark in the MWC while her .376 mark in league contests ranks third this week.

HELLWIG AT THE NET
*** Freshman middle blocker Bailee Hellwig averaged just under two blocks a game in last weekend's matches at Utah and BYU with 11 in six games.
*** Her six total blocks at BYU was one shy of her season best of seven set vs. Kentucky in early September.
*** She is averaging 1.55 bpg over SDSU's last four matches, all on the road.
*** Hellwig's 18 solo blocks are the most by an Aztecs this season and the highest total among the MWC's top 10 individual blockers.

CORDEIRO DIGGIN' IT
*** Aime Cordeiro had 31 digs in last weekend's two matches to bring her career total to 1,157.
*** That total puts her in third place on the SDSU career list in that category.
*** She is only the seventh player in SDSU history to reach the 1,000-dig plateau in her career.
*** She needs to record 212 more digs to reach the number-two spot currently occupied by Juliana Cezar (1,369 digs; 1993-96).
*** Cordeiro's 2006 season total is 414 digs, tying for the fifth-most ever in a season by an Aztec. She would need to average just over 18.7 digs per match over SDSU's next seven matches to tie the season record of 545, a mark set by Jackie Mendez in 1988.
*** Cordeiro continues to lead the Mountain West Conference in digs both in all matches (5.52 dpg) and in league-game only statistics (5.23 dpg).
*** In this week's NCAA statistics, Cordeiro is ranked 29th in the nation among Division I players in digs.

CASTILLO MOVIN' UP
*** Setter Kristin Castillo enters the week with a total of 1,941 assists in her three seasons as an Aztec and has moved into the number-six spot on the San Diego State career list.
*** She needs 298 more to take over the number-five spot currently occupied by Melissa Stokes (2,239 from 1986-88).

GREENE LEADS OFFENSE
*** Senior Melanie Greene continues to lead SDSU in kills (3.71 kpg) and is third in digs (2.62 dpg).
*** Greene has led San Diego State in kills in 13 matches this season including six of the last eight.
*** Her 3.71 kpg average overall ranks sixth in the Mountain West Conference this week, while her mark of 3.66 kpg in league play is fifth.
*** She has reached double figures in kills in 19 of SDSU's 22 matches this season. She had a streak of seven straight matches in double figures in kills ended last Friday at Utah.
*** Greene has a team-leading eight double-doubles and has the most career double-doubles among active Mountain West Conference players with 22.
*** Her .538 hitting percentage in the match vs. Lipscomb is a team best in 2006.
*** She is seventh in the MWC in points with an average of 4.12 per game in all matches.

DENT SOLID ALL-AROUND
*** Audra Dent has been in double figures in kills in four of SDSU's last five contests.
*** She recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 kills and 15 digs at Colorado State on Oct. 14.
*** The 15 digs in that match represented a career high for the senior right side hitter.
*** Her average of 4.02 points per game in all matches is the eighth-best mark in the league entering the week.
*** She has recorded double-figure point totals in 18 of SDSU's 22 matches in 2006.
*** Dent recorded a personal season-best 18 kills vs. Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 16 and followed that with 15 vs. Brigham Young on Sept. 21.
*** She is averaging over three (3.23) kills per game in all matches to rank 10th in the MWC this week.
*** Her 106 digs this fall surpasses her previous three-year total of 72. She is averaging 1.34 dpg after coming into the season with a 0.35 dpg career mark.

DARNALL DOUBLES UP
*** Freshman outside hitter Stephanie Darnall has recorded seven double-doubles (kills-digs), second most on the team behind senior Melanie Greene.
*** Darnall is second on the squad in kill average (3.32 kpg) and second in digs (2.93 dpg).
*** Her overall kill average ranks ninth in the conference this week while her mark of 3.46 kpg in MWC matches ranks sixth.
*** Her average of 3.21 digs per game in MWC play is eighth-best in the league.

SERVING IT UP
*** SDSU had a team-high 11 service aces in the match at Oregon on Sept. 9.
*** In that contest, junior Aime Cordeiro recorded a career-best seven aces.
*** The team total of 11 aces matched the best effort by the 2005 squad, which it accomplished in four matches.
*** Cordeiro's average of 0.33 aces per game overall ranks 10th in the MWC stats this week.
*** In league play, setter Leah Lathrop is averaging 0.48 aces per game to rank second in the conference and is sixth overall at 0.35 aces per game.

AZTEC NOTES
*** Lindsey Mahan's six blocks (one solo, five assists) at Brigham Young was her personal best in 2006.
