MALIBU, Calif. - San Diego State senior Christian Groh defeated Loyola Marymount's Reyniere Roxas, 6-3, 6-3, in the quarterfinal round of the ITA West Regionals at Ralph-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. With the win, Groh advances to Sunday's 11:30 a.m. PT semifinal against eighth-seeded Andre Begemann of Pepperdine.
The fourth-seeded and No. 67 Groh moved on to the semifinals after defeating all four of his opponents in straight sets. The senior from Germany will oppose Begemann, who reached the semifinals by upsetting top-seeded Ben Kohlloeffel of UCLA, 6-3, 6-4.
In other quarterfinal action, seventh-seeded and No. 99 Markus Dickhardt dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to second-seeded Chris Surapol of UCLA.
The ITA West Regionals will continue Sunday at Pepperdine's on-campus facility.
