SAN DIEGO -

SINGLES BRACKET | DOUBLES BRACKET

The San Diego State women's tennis team returns to action this weekend when it travels west down Interstate 8 to compete in the Wilson/ITA West Regional Championships, Oct 19-23, at Barnes Tennis Center. Along with the University of San Diego, SDSU will serve as co-host of the five-day tournament, which gets underway on Thursday with first-round doubles matches beginning at 8 a.m. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this weekend's event earn automatic berths in the ITA National Indoor Championships, Nov. 2-5, in Columbus, Ohio.

The San Diego State duo of Eliska Krausova (Prague, Czech Republic) and Sisse Nielsen (Alleroed, Denmark), ranked 43rd in the ITA preseason doubles poll, is seeded sixth in this weekend's tournament. Krausova and Nielsen received a first-round bye and will square off against the Arizona pairing of Kasia Jakowlew and Camelia Todorova in the round of 32 on Friday with a 9 a.m. start time.

In singles play, meanwhile, seven Aztecs are slated to take the court in the opening round on Thursday. The upper half of the bracket is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. as freshman Ozge Atalay (Istanbul, Turkey) faces Julia Sandborn of Hawai'i, while senior Alesya Vidov (Moscow, Russia) matches up against another Rainbow Wahine member, Florence Wasko. Sophomore Esther Cadua (San Diego, Calif.) tangles with Long Beach State's Nina Burgoon, while fellow classmate Holly Bagshaw (Potters Bar, England) engages Alicia Poladian of Pepperdine.

In the lower half of the bracket on Thursday, Nielsen battles Kristen Wilson of UC Santa Barbara starting at 11:30 a.m. At the same time, senior Yuki Hagiwara (Nishinomiya City, Japan) takes on UC Riverside's Erynne Oki, while freshman Kathryn Kitts (Yardley, Pa.) duels Kasia Krasinska of Cal State Northridge. Krausova received a first-round bye in singles and will await the winner of USC's Katja Decker-Sadowski and Kana Aikawa of Hawai'i in the round of 64 at 2:30 p.m.

In addition to SDSU, some of the top Division I women's tennis players from Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada will be on display at the tournament, featuring No. 1 singles seed Amanda Fink of USC. Other top seeds in singles competition include Pepperdine's Bianca Dulgheru, Dianne Matias of USC, UCLA's Riza Zalameda, Tracy Lin and Alex McGoodwin, along with Danielle Steinberg of Arizona.

In the doubles bracket, the top-seeded tandems consist of UCLA's Riza Zalameda-Alex McGoodwin and Yasmin Schnack-Tracy Lin, as well as Sylvia Kosakowski-Bianca Dulgheru of Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount's Pavla Mesterova-Robyn Baker.
