COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sophomore forward Jen Mello (Pleasanton, Calif.) has been named the Mountain West Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 9-15. Mello shares the award with UNLV's Armani Rice while Utah's Melissa Crespo earned the defensive player of the week award. It is the second career award for Mello, who won the award on Aug. 29, 2005 during her freshman season.

In two conference games last week, Mello scored three goals and notched one assist to help the Aztecs go 1-0-1 and remain unbeaten in conference play. Over her past three games, Mello has scored five goals after scoring three in her first 12 games. Her eight goals tie a career high while her 19 points set a new career high.

On Thursday in Provo, Utah, Mello scored one goal and assisted on another as the Aztecs and No. 15 Cougars played to a double-overtime tie, 2-2. On Sunday, the sophomore forward scored both of the Aztecs' goals in their 2-0 victory over Wyoming.

Mello currently leads the MWC in goals (8), goals per game (0.53), points (19), and points per game (1.27). She is one of four Aztecs to have started all 15 games in 2006 and is the third Aztec to win the weekly award in 2006. Both classmate Erika Sutton (Arvada, Colo.) and freshman Lauren Leslie (San Clemente, Calif.) earned player of the week honors on August 28. Sutton was named the offensive player of the week while Leslie was the defensive player of the week

San Diego State (6-7-2, 2-0-2 MWC) will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to visit the Lobos on Thursday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. MT.
