Volleyball Sweeps Air Force In Conference Action

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State recorded it second straight Mountain West Conference victory as it defeated Air Force in three games (30-15, 30-25, 30-22) Friday evening at Clune Arena in Colorado Springs. The win improved SDSU's season record to 8-11 overall and 5-2 in league action as it moved up two spots in the MWC standings into a tie for seventh place. Air Force, meanwhile, lost for the 13th consecutive time as they dropped to 1-14 (0-7 MWC).

Aztec senior right side hitter Audra Dent led all players with 13 kills and added three service aces, three digs and a pair of blocks while hitting .385 over the three games. Fellow senior Melanie Greene recorded her team-leading eighth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs.

SDSU setter Leah Lathrop had 42 assists and also set a personal best with five kills while libero Aime Cordeiro chipped in with a match-high 14 digs.

In the opening game, San Diego State began the match by winning 10 of the first 12 points behind a pair of kills by both Dent and middle blocker Lindsey Mahan. SDSU took its largest lead of the contest at 24-9 before the teams traded points the rest of the way. Dent finished with five kills with Mahan and Greene notching four apiece as the Aztecs hit .500 for the game.

Game two saw San Diego State take its first lead at 4-3 and maintain their advantage the remainder of the contest. SDSU pulled away to a 17-11 lead midway through the game only to see the Falcons close to within a point at 25-24. From there, the Aztecs won four of the next five points to close out the game. Included in those five were a pair of kills and a service ace by Dent.

In the third game, SDSU went ahead for good at 5-4, eventually moving out to a nine-point lead at 20-11. Greene had four kills for the Aztecs, a number matched by the Falcons' Katie Batchelder. Air Force's Jasamine Pettit had five kills in the game and set a new career high by totaling 12 in the match.

San Diego State will now head to Fort Collins where it will face the Colorado State Rams in a match scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14, at 7:00 p.m. (MDT) in Moby Arena on the CSU campus.
