WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - San Diego State's Raul Bautista (Salida, Calif./Grace Davis HS) has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the period of Sept. 26-Oct. 2. The weekly award is the first for the senior and the second by an Aztec this season (Tally Hall, Sept. 26).
A tri-captain, Bautista scored one goal and added an assist as the Aztecs went 2-0 over the weekend.
Bautista scored the game-winning goal for SDSU, which received a red card and played a man down for the final 75:48, in the 20th minute off a header in the Aztecs' 1-0 upset over No. 4 Washington on Sunday.
Bautista, playing as the team's central defending midfielder, helped limit the Huskies, who came into the match leading the conference in points (69), goals (24), assists (21) and shots per game (17.25), to just 11 shot attempts (six on goal) in the match. His two shots on goal led the team in the win.
On Friday, Bautista assisted on the Aztecs' first goal in their 2-1 victory over Oregon State. He finished the game with two shots.
Bautista has started all nine games he has appeared in 2006 and has one goal and two assists for four points.
Bautista and SDSU (7-3-1, 3-1-0 Pac-10), ranked No. 22 in the latest adidas/NSCAA poll, will host No. 16 UCLA at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
