IRVINE, Calif. - The San Diego State women's soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit and scored the final three goals in a 3-1 victory over UC Irvine at the UC Irvine Puma Classic on Friday night. The Aztecs improved to 3-2 with the win, while the Anteaters fell to 0-5.

UC Irvine got on the scoreboard 13:52 into the game with a goal from Kate Berrini.

SDSU answered just 1:42 later when sophomore Jen Mello scored on a breakaway into the lower-left corner of the net.

Mello made it 2-0 Aztecs in the 37th minute when she gathered the rebound on freshman Heather Vandevanter and knocked it into the net. Vandevanter was credited with the assist on the play.

Freshman Jessica Gordon scored her first career goal at 80:41 on a breakaway to give SDSU a 3-1 lead.

The Anteaters would get no closer, as the Aztecs finished the match with a 13-9 advantage in shots and 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Cat Burson made two saves in the win for SDSU, while Erin Henry had four stops in the loss.

The Aztecs will continue play in the UC Irvine Puma Classic with a game against UC Riverside at 11 a.m. Sunday.
