TULSA, Okla. - After a first round victory, San Diego State junior Robert Sabo (Rancho Mirage, Calif.) was defeated in the second round of prequalifying at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships.
In round one, the junior drew Jon Weingand of Texas and dropped the first set, 4-6. Sabo rebounded nicely in the second set to win it, 6-2. The momentum from a second-set victory helped Sabo leap out to a 5-2 advantage in the third set before Weingand would make it interesting by taking the next two games. At 5-4, Sabo took the final game and the set to win the match and advance to the second round.
Sabo's second match of the day would come against a rested Alex Cojanu of William & Mary. Cojanu, who received a first-round bye, defeated Sabo in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the third round of the prequalifying.
The third round of prequalifying will take place tomorrow with the first round of singles qualifying to begin on Monday, Oct. 2. Aztec seniors Markus Dickhardt (Marburg, Germany) and Christian Groh (Crailsheim, Germany) will be in action on Monday.
