SAN DIEGO - Ryan Amoroso, a 6-9, 242-pound junior forward has transferred from Marquette to San Diego State and will be eligible to play for the Aztecs beginning with the 2007-08 season, head coach Steve Fisher announced. He has two years of athletic eligibility remaining.
A native of Burnsville, Minn., Amoroso played in 31 games, making three starts, for the Golden Eagles last season, averaging 15.2 minutes, 6.0 points and 3.6 rebounds on a team that finished 20-11 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. His best game of the season came vs. South Carolina at the Great Alaska Shootout when scored 30 points, grabbed 12 rebounds in 30 minutes of action. The following game at Nebraska he posted his second consecutive double-digit rebound game with 10 boards.
As a freshman, Amoroso played in 26 games, receiving the starting nod five times, and averaged 5.6 points and 4.0 rebounds. He has career numbers of 15.1 minutes, 5.8 points and 3.8 rebounds.
Amoroso attended Burnsville High in Burnsville, Minn., where he graduated as the school's all-time leader in scoring and rebounding. During his senior year, he averaged 24.1 points and 12.2 rebounds in leading Burnsville to the Class 4AAAA state title game and garnered all-state, all-conference and all-metro honors.
