SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf team will return to action this week when it travels to the Pacific Northwest to participate in the University of Washington's Opus NW Husky Invitational, Sept. 25-26, in Auburn, Wash. The first two rounds of the 54-hole tournament are slated to get underway on Monday, beginning at 7:30 a.m. PDT at the 7,050-yard, par-72 Washington National Golf Club. The final 18 holes will be contested on Tuesday with the same morning start time.
The nine-team field includes six schools from the Pac-10 Conference, including host Washington, Washington State, California, Oregon, Oregon State and UCLA. Loyola Marymount and UC Davis are also scheduled to compete.
The Aztecs will be led by junior Aaron Goldberg (Encinitas, Calif.), who finished in a four-way tie for third place with a 3-under-par 213 at the prestigious Topy Cup in Japan on Sept. 7. The La Costa Canyon High graduate is SDSU's top returning golfer from a year ago, posting five top-10 finishes with a 72.58 stroke average during the 2005-06 campaign. For his efforts last season, Goldberg earned all-Mountain West Conference accolades.
Also making the trip to the Evergreen State is senior John Gray (Vista, Calif.), juniors Chad Moscovic (Stockton, Calif.) and Jamie Puterbaugh (Carlsbad, Calif.), and freshman Joacim Hultman (Gothenburg, Sweden). The three Aztec upperclassmen saw action in the Topy Cup as well, while Hultman will be making his debut for the scarlet and black this week.
