Tyson Paces Aztecs at Prestigious Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - For a second straight week, senior Celeste Tyson led the way for the Aztecs as San Diego State turned in a 31st-place finish at the highly competitive 21st Annual Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn.

A week after being SDSU's top runner at the 5K Aztec Invitational, Tyson finished the 6K race, San Diego State's first of the season, in 23:49. Junior Meryl Follosco continued her trend of finishing among the team's top-2 runners as she followed Tyson with a time of 24:11.

Freshman Jessica Mason, in her first 6K race as a collegian, posted SDSU's third-best time of 24:47. Rounding out San Diego State's point earners were juniors Lital Azulay (25:35) and Lisa Naucler (25:38).

Other Aztecs who finished the race were senior Jackie Duncan (25:48) and freshman Stephanie Armstrong (26:10).

San Diego State will continue its 2006 campaign Saturday, Sept. 30, as it will split its team in two and send one group to the Willamette Invitational (10:10 a.m. PST) in Salem, Ore., while the other travels to Riverside, Calif., for the UC Riverside Invite (8:15 a.m. PST).
