FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - San Diego State junior Anna Booth (Coffs Harbour, Australia) and sophomore Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) are tied for second place after posting matching first round scores of 1-over-par 74 Monday at the La Quinta Inn & Suites Mountain Shootout in Flagstaff, Ariz. The pair, which is tied with Cal Poly's Julia Heath, is just one stroke behind leader Margaux Sheehan of Sacramento State, who fired an even-par 73, at the 6,032-yard Continental Country Club.

Booth leads the tournament in par-4 scoring at 2-under and logged four birdies and 11 pars in the first round. Kamimura, meanwhile, shot a 38 in her first nine holes, following it up with a 36, with pars on 13 of the 18 holes.

Besides Booth and Kamimura, five other Aztecs are also competing in the 55-golfer field as individuals. Junior MacKenzie Swecker (Winnemucca, Nev.) is tied for 29th place after logging a 9-over 82. The four others are all playing in their first career tournaments at SDSU, including junior Kim Carmody (Palatine, Ill.), who is 42nd at 14-over 87, redshirt freshman Ashley Wood (Lake Tahoe, Calif.), who carded an 89, and true freshman Marcela Campbell (Glendale, Calif.) and Baylee Turner (Las Vegas, Nev.), who are tied for 49th place after first round scores of 93.

SDSU, which is not competing as a team this year, is the defending tournament champions, edging Sacramento State by one stroke at the same course in 2006. Current Aztec redshirt sophomore Megan McLeod (Fallbrook, Calif.) also claimed medalist honors with a 1-under 145 over 36 holes.

The second and final round of the 2007 La Quinta Inn & Suites Mountain Shootout will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
