LOS ANGELES - The 29th-ranked San Diego State women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 5 UCLA on Friday night in Los Angeles. The loss was the first for the Aztecs (2-1) this season, while the Bruins improved to 2-1.

UCLA's Kristina Larsen knocked in the game's only goal in the ninth minute of play off a deflected shot from Lydia Cook. Larsen grabbed the rebound in the box, slipping it past San Diego State goalkeeper Cat Burson.

Burson kept the game close in the first half with a couple of point-blank saves.

At halftime, the Bruins owned a 5-4 edge in shots, while the Aztecs had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

UCLA outshot SDSU, 7-2, in the second half, but Burson once again came up with some big stops to keep the score 1-0.

The Aztecs' best chance to score came in the 80th minute when freshman Lauren Leslie's shot from 25 yards out hit the crossbar and went out of bounds.

Sophomore Erika Sutton, who was named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, led the SDSU offense with three shots, including two on goal. Junior Ashley Tenn, sophomore Jen Mello and Leslie had the other shot attempts for the Aztecs, who started eight underclassmen for the third consecutive game.

Burson finished with a game-high six saves. In three games this season, the junior is 2-1 with a 0.33 goals against average and a 93.8 shots-on-goal save percentage.

SDSU will play host to UC Santa Barbara at 1 p.m. Sunday. It will be the first home game for Aztecs this season.
