SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State football team logged its final workout of fall camp Thursday, exactly one week away from its season-opener Aug. 31, at home against UTEP. The Aztecs, who practiced on-campus for two and a half hours in full pads, will have Friday off before beginning their game-week preparation on Saturday.
SDSU ran through its normal position drills Thursday, went over special teams situations and concluded the day with 11-on-11 action under the hot early afternoon sun. The Aztecs completed their 24th workout of 2006 fall camp since reporting to campus on Aug. 5.
"We covered a lot of special teams (today)," Aztec head coach Chuck Long said. "We covered a lot of gimmicks, as many as we could think of that have happened over the years. We finished with a good, crisp team period. Camp's flown by - I wish we had more. It was a good camp, though. I thought guys really worked very well. It's not easy to do especially when you have a lot of practices in one week, and I know I need to give them some time off and we'll be ready for game week."
The story behind the music:
Beginning last spring, Chuck Long started playing music on the field during pre-practice stretching drills. He liked the energy it brought to the beginning of practice and will continue to utilize it during the fall. Coach Long has solicited lists from athletic department personnel, media and throughout the University and plans to select a different playlist every day.
