TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The San Diego State men's soccer team is ranked No. 24 in the College Soccer News Preseason Poll. The Aztecs return seven starters from a 2005 squad that finished with a 9-4-6 record and earned a trip to their first NCAA appearance since 1989.
College Soccer News has SDSU ahead of perennial powers Virginia Tech (25), Santa Clara (26) and St. Louis (27). Last week, the publication ranked the Aztecs' 2006 recruiting class as the 19th best in the nation.
"I think (the ranking) is well deserved and we are proud of it," head coach Lev Kirshner said. "It's showing the soccer world and the San Diego community that Aztec soccer is back. It's a nice honor and something we can take pride in."
SDSU begins its season Aug. 25 at SDSU Sports Deck when it hosts the inaugural Aztec/Soccer Post Classic. The Aztecs will play Albany at 4 p.m. on Aug. 25 before hosting Rutgers at 2 p.m. on Aug. 27.
