WOODLAND, Calif. - San Diego State senior driver Rachel Serna has earned honorable mention all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors the conference office announced Wednesday morning. The selection is Serna's second of her career and represents the second straight year in which she has garnered honorable mention accolades.
Serna received the starting nod in all 34 games this season and registered 41 goals, the second most on the squad and tied for 16th in the MPSF. She also ended the year ranked No. 27 in the league with an average of 1.21 goals per game.
In addition to her goal scoring, the Coronado, Calif., native posted the fourth most assists and steals on the team with 29 and 24, respectively.
In 2006, Serna scored at least one goal in 26 matches, recorded multiple goals in 10 of those contests and led the team in scoring 11 times. Against San Jose State at the Gaucho Invitational in Santa Barbara, Calif., Feb. 26, she tallied five goals tying her career-best and setting a team season-high.
Serna ends her Aztec career ranked seventh on the all-time goal-scoring list at San Diego State with 129 goals. She also ranks eighth in SDSU history for goals in single season as she scored 65 in 2005 and tied for 12th with her 29 assists this year.
The Aztecs completed the season with a 22-12 record, their ninth campaign in 12 seasons with at least 20 victories. SDSU ended the year at the MPSF Championship as the No. 9 seed and upset eighth-seeded San Jose State and sixth-seeded UC Irvine on its way to a seventh-place finish. San Diego State's effort marks the second consecutive season in which it placed higher than its tournament seed.
